Mary,
According to an 1883 ad for Spencerian Business College, they were located in the Lincoln Hall Building at the corner of 9th & D Sts, NW.They opened in 1865 and held day and evening classes.Tuition was $20 per quarter for day students and $6 per month for evening.Applicants to the Junior Department had to be 14 years old; applicants to the Senior Department had to be 15.The school taught spelling, penmanship, arithmetic, bookkeeping, English, Eloquotion, Phonography (i.e., shorthand) and similar business courses. The school was run by H. C. Spencer, who was Principal, and Mrs. S. A. Spencer, Vice Principal. The ad has pen and ink drawings of the outer building and the main hall. The ad is about 7 pages long and includes more details on courses taught, books, sickness and removals, etc.If you are looking for something specific, post a followup and I'll see what I can find.
