Dear Joy,
You are not alone in your search for the Dawsons who lived in Rabun County, Georgia! If you do a "Jonas Dawson" search on this forum, you will see a long list of past posts by a variety of researchers.

I have kept a file on the Jonas Dawson line since the 1980s when I traveled from Texas to the Rabun County Courthouse in Georgia. I was anxious to make a connection between this line and my direct ancestor, Samuel Dawson (1784-1874);however, I have never managed to do that. This is a plea to all of you who are researching the Jonas Dawson line to consider joining the Dawson DNA project! It would be very beneficial to so many of us who are facing steep brick walls in Geogia and South Carolina.

Joy, you probably already know that Jonas Dawson was a Revolutionary War patriot who was born in 1761 at Pendleton's Fort in the Greenville area of South Carolina. He was discharged in Union District, South Carolina and moved to Buncombe District, North Carolina after the war and then to Rabun County, Georgia. I have notes on the various land deeds in the courthouse there. He also received land from the Cherokee Land Lottery in 1832 in Rabun County, Georgia, where he lived when his claim for pension was submitted.

Best regards,
Janet
