I am trying to establish the parents of my ancestor, Nancy Dawson, who married James Stephens/Stevens. Nancy was born in Kentucky (believed to be in Casey Co.) about 1800.

The following was shared with me by Paul Zebe:

Deed of gift ("for two years and no longer") from Benjamin Dawson to his daughter, Nancy Stephens, 9 June 1816, "Deeds 2, Casey County," pp. 286-287 (LDS Microfilm 0593572, Item 2).

Text:

Casey County Set (?) The foregoing named Property was this day proven before me in my office by Isaiah Haines & John Dawson subscribing witnesses thereto to have in the possession of Benj. Dawson (overwritten words -- bottom (old) words are "& by him"; top (new) words cannot be made out) mentioned dated & by him delivered to the said Nancy Stephens in the Conditons within mentioned and thereupon admitted to Record in Witness whereof I have hereunto Set (?) my hand this 17th day of February 1820
? Sweney (Sweeny?) clk"

A Milly Dawson married Job Sweeney in Casey Co., Ky and I believe she is a sister to Nancy. Other possible siblings include: George, Benjamin, John, Sally (who married Isaiah Haynes), and Polly (who married Ned Drake).

A Susannah Dawson, sister to Benjamin married Richard Adams, which leads me to believe that Nancy's father was Benjamin Dawson, son of John Dawson and Sally Carroll.

Any help in determining Nancy's parentage would be greatly appreciated.
