According to the 1900 Census, Joseph was born in May 1837 and Samantha was 45 years old (no record of birth date and she is listed as not being able to read or write) and they had been married 5 years. She is listed as having two children, which would be Ida E. (Aug 1897) and Corbet (Apr 1900) There are two more Owens children (presumably from Joseph's previous marriage): Delbert (Aug 1883) and Gilbert H. (Apr 1887) and then a stepdaughter: Suda Dawson (July 1894).
From the West Virginia web site, I found what looks like Joseph and Samantha's marriage license. They were married on 10 March 1896 in Tyler Co., WV. The only problem is that Samantha is listed as Samantha Patrick (he is listed as 58 and she as 34).
There is another Tyler Co., WV marriage license for Samantha Dawson to Joseph (or Josephus) Kirkpatrick on 21 April 1882 where both parties are listed as being 23. Giving information is Quintus Dawson and the 1880 Census lists a Samantha Dawson (age 24) as a daughter of Quintas (50) and Matilda (48) Dawson, however, they are living in Clay, Ritchie Co., WV which is the next county over.
