William Smith (brn 1833) remained in Melbourne and had 7 girls (no boys at all!) George also remained in Melbourne and had 2 daughters and a son (could be more, but this is all I could find!). Fanny herself became a 'housekeeper' to William Brentnall after the death of John. It must have been a good arrangement as she lived with him for over 20 years until her death in 1883. John (my direct line) married twice, first time to Charlotte Horsley, who died in 1871 after giving him 2 sons and 2 daughters (Sarah, Selina, John and Arthur respectively) and then to Emma, or Emily Kendall, but by 1891 he was again a widow and ended his days living in Castle Donington with his daughter, Selina and her husband John Winfield. The eldest daughter, Sarah remained in Melbourne until her death in 1906 she married William Tilson. My g grandfather, John moved first to Swadlincote, and then to Shirebrook, Notts to work in the mines. He married Isabella Weeder and had 5 children, but only my grandmother, Charlotte, survived. John died in 1932 in Warsop Notts. Arthur emigrated to Australia, but was never heard from again by the family. The last recorded link between Smith and Dawson, was my gg grandfather boarding with William (son of George) and family in 1891. Back in 1861, Fanny Dawson (one of George's children by his first marriage) was living with Fanny and John, William was living with Uncle Thomas Dawson. A contact of mine claims that George's third wife did not want anything to do with his first wife's children, hence the boarding out to relatives. I have my doubts about this theory personally, as young Fanny was back to living with the family again in 1871. Sorry about the length of this, but I have tried to be as concise as possible!
