JT I am waiting for copies of my father's work but it may be awhile. I become very curious and anxious when I discovered the wealth of info on the net. I found my John in the Perry/Hupp Family History but they have is father as Joseph of Calvert Co MD who died 1685 - not possible. They do list the other issues of my John but until I can check this against my father's work, I'm uncertain about accuracy. What they list is as follows: John Dawkins and Eleanor Lucille Athey There is another family site in the Ancestors of Joseph Davis Cornwell III with a George Dawkins in Northumberland Co VA by 1680. www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/r/Joseph-D-Cornwell-iii George Dawkins d abt 17 May 1727 m ? Issues of George II and Mary Warwick Issues of John*** son of George II and Frances *** John Dawkins son of George II moved to Stafford Co VA before his father's death. We find the following land grand 2 Feb 1729 to John Dawkins of Stafford Co 2075 acrs at the head of Licking Branch of broad Run of Occoquan river at the head of said river. He died and left a will dated 16 Oct 1746 probated 26 Jan 1747 in Prince William co which was formed from Stafford Co in 1731 It is possible that my memory for numbers deceived me and the land grant that my father has was dated 1727 not 1627 although I recall 3000 acres with much of it leased. It is very possible that the John Dawkins that married Nancy Churchill was John II and that my John's father was Joseph but this is just a guess. But then we have the descendants of Joseph Dawkins of Calvert Co MD and these families may very well be connected. Seems like a lot of Dawkins in early colonial Virgina. Dawkins is not that common of a name and it didn't show up in England until about mid 1400's. Seems to me that it is very likely that these early settlers were related in some fashion. My grandfather's story of our ancestry was that three brothers came over from Scotland. If I recall correctly, he said that two stayed in VA area and one went north. Hope this helps. When I can connect more I'll let you know. Deb
