Dawkins Family Genealogy Forum

Sarah, Looking forward to your date-place info in re the Dawkins line you provided earlier. This is important because SC genealogist Leonardo Andrea back in the 1950's asserted that Wm Dawkins was from an SC family that came into Beaufort Co around 1720 and then moved eventually to Newberry Co by 1770's. There Wm was Capt, RW. Andrea further stated that Wm was child of one of two Dawkins women, RW Patriots, but which could not be ascertained and was the son of one of two Dawkins men also uncertain. Chloe , one of the women, may have been the mother since he named a daughter Chloe. So much for Andrea who very often rode his bike from town to town in central SC doing research in the days before Trailways. Then along came the interest in Burr Harris, one of the most intriguing puzzles of American genealogy. As a result of intensive but unsuccessful study of that family, we now know that the Dawkins came into Newberry 1773 with Burr and his family from Pr. Wm. VA. Apparently, the Dawkins were in VA for some time. (Andrea was not aware of Dawkins marriages to Burr's daughters in VA.) Your line-up does not give dates so I can't decide how many generations you may be indicating could have resided in VA and may have preceded the birth of Capt. Wm. Also there was a Dawkins line in MD about that time. Could Wm's ancestors have been from there? Thanks for your past input. You hava been a benefit confirming much for me. Looking forward to you remarks in re above. Thanks, JT
