In the September 2, 1999 Hunterdon County Democrat there is a follow-up: The township has wrapped up a deal to preserve another 220 acres of farmland on Lebanon-Stanton Road - the subject of a chancery court trial in June. The 224-year old farm owned by ailing farmer Donald Dawes-Smith, 87, will be kept under cultivation according to the terms of the agreement. Mr. Smith has received $1,044,000 for the development rights. In the settlement of its lawsuit, the two sides ironed out points concerning the environmental issues, rebuilding dwellings on the property and the possibility of constructing a cell tower on the site, which the state would not allow, according to Township Attorney William Caldwell.
