A biography/family history of Lossie Theophilus Dawe is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 730 & 731. Lossie Dawe was born, 14 Aug 1868, son of William T. and Rebecca (Dill) Dawe. William T. Dawe was born in Cornwall, England, & was brought by his parents to Canada. After his father's death, the family moved to Montgomery County, PA. A brief bio of William T. is included in Lossie's biography. William T. and Rebecca followed Lossie to Montana; William died in Livingston in May 1919, age 81; Rebecca died in Glendive in Nov 1908. Children of William T. and Rebecca Dawe: Jesse F. (McCone Co., MT); Lossie (Sydney, MT); Phillemon (died in 1909, leaving a wife and 4 children near Gettysburg, MT); Mary E. (Mrs. E.J. Kiel, Livingston, MT); Benjamin (Gettysburg, MT) Lossie was raised and educated in Kent County, MI. He came by train to Glendive, MT, and went to work on a sheep ranch on Sears Creek, then on a cattle ranch of George McCone of Glendive. After four years, Lossie went in partnership with C.G. Larson and began ranching for themselves. The partnership was dissolved in 1897 and Lossie went into the cattle business in partnership with his wife. Years later they purchased a quarter section adjacent to Sidney, MT, Mr. Dawe began permanent development there. In 1904, the family moved in to Sydney, MT. In 1910, he was in the loan and real estate business under the name Montana Eastern Land and Investment Company. In 1915, the partnership was dissolved and Lossie went back to farming. On 15 May 1895, Sidney, MT, Lossie married Miss Lavenia G. Blakeslee, born 29 Jun 1866, Kansas, daughter of Nelson and Mary E. (Gall) Blakeslee. She grew up in Savannah, MO, and was educated there and in Kansas State Normal. She came to Dawson Co., MT, to continue her work as a teacher at Tokna, when she became acquainted with Mr. Dawe. Children of Lossie and Lavenia Dawe: Enid M., Glen B., Eva, Mary. Lavenia G. Dawe died, 24 Dec 1920, age 56, Richland Co. MT I am not related. Notify Administrator about this message?
