My great-grandfather emigrated from Straide, Co.Mayo, Ireland to Haslingden, Lancashire, England in November 1850. Travelling with him were his wife, three daughters and his only son Michael who was my grandfather. Many Davitts emigrated during this period to the Blackburn,Burnley,Rochdale,Bury and Bolton area. Haslingden was between these towns. There was a census taken on March 30th 1850 which may have records of Barney's parents.
