Child: MARTHA DAVIDSON, b. 11 June 1834 at Sydney, NSW. Baptized 24 Aug in parish ofSt
Phillips, Co of Cumberland, Sydney. Martha somehow got to Ireland, and later returned to Sydney
alone in 1849:
(Assisted immigration (AO NSW reels 2136, 2460): Martha Davidson, aged 14, laundress, C of
Eng, can read and write, born in Sydney, NSW. Parents: James & Mary Ann Davidson. No
relations in colony, no complaints, good health. Under parents names and ifstill living: mother living
in Dublin. (= father probably dead, or parents separated?). Arrived in Sydney on 21 Nov 1849 per
‘William & Mary’ from Plymouth. Listed under orphan females (though document says her mother is
still alive.) (Must have returned to Ireland with parents or at least with her mother, as shipping record
says her mother, Mary Ann was living in Dublin, in 1849.)
