We finally found where Ruth is buried. The family record said she died 21 Mar 1877 and we assumed she was buried somewhere in Shawnee Co., KS. But she evidently died at Dover, Shawnee Co., KS which is half a mile from the Wabaunsee County line. The Dover Cemetery wasn't started until the mid 1880s and before that the Dover people evidently used a cemetery about 4 miles west into Wabaunsee Co. We found the Keene/Misson Creek Cemetery list online with no Ruth DAVIS, but there was a Ruth DANES 1798-1877 that we thought might be her. So we made a road trip to the cemetery and there was the stone for Ruth DAVIS, clearly readable even after 132 years. Email me if you would like a copy of the photo of her stone. It says RUTH DAVIS 1798-1877 with some words we couldn't read. There are no stones right next to hers, even though a granddaughter Ruth (dau of Perry) died at Dover in 1871 or 1872. She may also be there but with no stone.
Ruth was the daughter of David (1768-1847) and Elizabeth 'Betsy' (MARKS) DILLON, born 5 Jun 1798 in Loudon Co., VA. She married Edward DAVIS (1785-1837, son of Aquilla and Isabella (BRIGGS) DAVIS) in Mar 1818 in Union Co., KY. He is buried at Latham-Thompson Cemetery, Logan Co., IL. Ruth was a widow for 40 years.
Edward and Ruth had 7 children: Cyrus (who died from wounds at the Battle of Shiloh in 1862), Mary (who died at the age of 13 and is buried next to her father), David, Martha, Perry (1825-1913, married Florinda/Flora MILEHAM/MILAM (1828-1907) 1848 Logan Co., IL, came to Kansas from Illinois in 1866, bur Topeka Cemetery), John Thomas, and Isabella.
