There is quite a good article about the Daivs family during the time they lived in Canada (1866) at the www.paperofrecord.com site. You have to register, but it's free and you can see the actual newspaper. The article is in the 9 November 1866 issue of the Perth Courier (Ontario, Canada). It's entitled "The Davis Family" and tells of what they look like, their approximate ages, what schools they're going to and where they are living (in Montreal). There are 6 people in the household: Mrs. Davis, her mother Mrs. Howell, Miss Howell (Mrs. Davis' sister) and Mrs. Davis' 3 children: Jefferson (aged abt 14 and attending school in Lennoxville), Margaret (aged abt 8 and in the Convent of the Sacred Heart) and Willy (aged abt 4 and 'quite deaf'). It also mentions that the family recently heard that Lt. Jefferson Howell, who had been in the Shenandoah, was arrested at Portland (presumably Maine)- he is a son of Mrs. Howell and brother to Mrs. Davis.
Anyway, interesting article for anyone who is researching this family.
