Think this is my same line.
My g.g. grandfather was David Franklin Brown, Sr. and born in Baldwin or Paulding County, Georgia. He raised a family primarily in Walker County, Georgia...around Chickamauga. He died May 11, 1940 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. According to older relatives (grandchildren and great-grandchildren of David Franklin Brown, Jr.), he had a brother who lived in Lafayette (Walker County), GA who was a "judge." He and this brother married sisters. My g.g. grandmother, David Franklin Brown, Sr.'s wife, was Sarah Jane Freeman Brown.
In a book I found in the Lafayette Library, in the book "History of Walker County, Georgia" by James Alfred Sartain (c. 1972) on pages 479-480 the following:
"G.W. Brown was the son of W.M. Brown who was born in Walton County about 1825 and died in 1862. His mother was Nancy, daughter of Geary [THIS IS HOW IT WAS SPELLED IN THE BOOK] Davis, a Methodist minister of Cobb County. G. W. Brown was born in Paulding County in 1857 where he was brought up amid the hardships incident to an orphan boy during and following the lean years of the Civil War. In 1877 he married Ollie C., daughter of W.A.J. Freeman, a veteran of the Confederacy. He came to Walker County in 1890, living one year in East Armuchee, then moving to the Chestnut Flat district where he bought a farm and settle near Catlett and resided there 24 years." It gives some more information on him, including that in 1915 he sold his farm and moved to Lafayette where he served as a Notary Public and Justice of the Peace. Also states..."Squire Brown is known and recognized by all as an honest and impartial judge."
I have checked the death certificate for David and G.W. and parent names match...as well as info. for both Sarah and Ollie. This book gave me info. on the Brown lineage and the link to the Davis name.
David Franklin & G.W.'s parents were: William M. Brown and Nancy Davis. In the book "Cobb County, Georgia Will Book 2-A, 1865-1900" by Pamela C. Leavitt (c. 1955), I found the following on page 16:

From Family Tree Maker's on-line database "Hall Co., GA Marriages from 1819-1850" I found:
DAVIS, Gary marr. FLOYD, Sarah December 06, 1821
This documents also shows a James DAVIS married a Nancy FLOYD 07/21/1824...may be some relation.
In another document I found in "Family Tree" a publication by the Family Tree Northeast Cobb Genealogical Society 1980-1983; Feb. 1983 for this particular edition, page 3, I found:
DAVIS BURYING GROUND: located just north of the intersection of Old Mountain Road with Burnt Hickory Road. There is an old logging run on the west side of Burnt Hickry Road. Follow this run approximately .2 miles into the woods. The cemetery is fenced. Land lot 261 - District 20. In front of the first row is a raised plot. Along the edge were the broken remnants of a marker. States it was surveyed in 1981. Davis names listed were:

Other surnames in this lot are Griggs, Hill, and McGriff...also some stones with no names.
I have a picture of who I was told was Nancy Davis Brown and of W.M. Brown. After reading your post the other day I Yahooed "Gary Davis" & "Cobb County" and pulled up a link that showed a historic marker in Cobb county that talks about him too. If you think this is the same line, please contact me.
