Eva Davis Rush, August 24, 1916 - September 24, 2007
Eva Davis Rush, 91, of Abingdon, VA, formerly of Jonesville,
VA, passed away Monday, September 24, 2007 at Johnston
Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. She had made her home
with her great niece, Jill and Mark Harless, where she had
received loving care for the past 3 1/2 years.
She was retired from the Lee County School System with
over 40 years of service as a teacher. She graduated from
Peabody Teacher's College and received a Master's Degree
from Union Collage. She was a member of Russell’s Chapel
United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the
WSCS. She had served as church pianist as well as UMYF
director for many years. She was the widow of Howard Rush.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by
her parents, A. E. and Rose Davis; three brothers, Sheridan,
Bill, and John Davis; and two sisters, Grace Davis and
Katherine Higginson.
Survivors are: three nephews, Rev. John Rush and Elaine,
Greer, SC; Rev. Jim Rush and Libby, Spartanburg, SC; and
Jim Davis and Barbara, Myakka City, FLA; two nieces, Rose
Payne and Larry of Abingdon, VA, Peggy Lord of Towson, MD;
other great nieces, Carol and George Openhym, Janet Lord,
Baltimore, MD; great Nephews, Fred and Janet Davis of
Atlanta, GA; Scott Minor, Knoxville, TN; Todd and Karen
Minor, Charlottesville, VA; Chadd and Denise Minor of
Scottsville, VA; 10 great-great nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday,
September 28 2007 at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in
Jonesville, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the
Russell's Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. John Rush
officiating.
Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Jonesville, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
the Russell Chapel United Methodist Church.
Friends in Abingdon may call on the family at the home of
Jill and Mark Harless, 19299 Triple Crown Dr. Abingdon, VA,
1-3 p.m. Saturday.
The family would also like to thank the many care givers of
Mrs. Rush.
