My paternal grandmother was Melvina Davis, dau. of John & Nancy Davis, Haywood Co. NC census of 1850. Census of Jackson Co., 1860 shows N.C.(Nancy) head of household. Family tradition holds that John, a blacksmith, was killed operating a steam-powered sawmill when the boiler exploded. Can anyone help with any further info?
