Years ago when I was visiting in Aberdare, Glamorganshire to find information about my Davies ancestors. I went to the St. John The Baptist Parish in Aberdare to see if I could find information that would help me trace my ancestors. It was about 4:00PM when we found the Vicar of the parish and he allowed us to view a very old book of baptisms and marriages, etc. He would turn all of the pages because the book was very fragile. I found three generations of my Davies family, but I could not get back any farther than my GGG Grandparents. John Davies, whose birth we, for some reason, estimated at about 1767 and his wife Elizabeth David who we estimated was b. abt the same time were my GGG Grandparents. We did have a Marriage date for them as 28 March 1787 at that Parish. I can't remember why we had to estimate the birth dates, because normally a parish record would give a birth date or age and Place of Birth or parish of record. I remember that the elderly Vicar was anzious to leave and it may have been that we just did not have time to record that information. I am dead ended with this couple and I have no idea where they came from. I think the parish record said that they were of that parish, but I am not sure. They had at least one child. Again I am not sure we could not have found more but we did not have time. The one child was my GG Grandmother Catherine Davies Bapt. 3 Oct 1801. Again there may have been more but we did not have time to look. I had to leave Aberdare the next morning and have never been able to get back to Aberdare again. I live in the USA and would still like to be able to get access to the information in that parish record. Do any of you know anyone in Aberdare that would look up some information for me in that parish record. Or is it possible that they have since copied or digitized that old Parish Record book and that it might be available on-line or in a library, etc. Does anyone know if there are libraiies or places where I could get someone to look up the information I need. I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
