In this document Re: Davies in Aberdare, a mention is made of a name change from Davies to Davis when the person with that name came to America. It may interest you to learn how this occurs. In the early 1800's and probably before that when a Davies immigrant comes through the immigration process at a port of entry, they are asked what their name is and they Say "Davis" because that is the way Davies is pronounced in Wales. The immigration clerk writes down DAVIS. Since many of the immigrants are like my grandfather was, illiterate and not able to spell or read, they do not recognize that their name has just been changed. From then on they are known as Davis insted of Davies. I have heard this story told many times. In Wales Davies and Davis are both pronounced as Davis.
Jack Davis (used to be Davies in Wales)
