Thank you for your response and for your earlier posting about the family of the Reverend Samuel.
I'm looking for the parents of Jesse Davis, born 22 April 1775 and died 26 Oct 1855. Family oral history has it that he came from Prince William County to what is now Wood County, WV in 1818. I've been looking at the 1810 Census and indeed, I've found 11 Davis families in Dumfries, among them a "Jessee" who falls into the right age group. Jesse named his sons Samuel, Robert and William...all too common naming patterns, but maybe a hint as to the name of his father.
I've been investigating the Rev. Sam, because another relative believed that Jesse's father was named Samuel and that the Reverend could be he. Obviously the dates don't work for Jesse to have been a son, but maybe he could be a grandson.
