Here's my confusion: On one hand there seems to be evidence that Rev. Joseph Alexander (son of Theophilus) married Martha Ester Davies, the daughter of Princeton President Davies. But on the other hand, I cannot find a listing that shows a "Martha Ester Davies" to be a daughter of President Davies. According to an internet biography, Pres. Davies had a short-lived first marriage of less than a year (Oct. 1746 to Sept. 1747) and (I think I recall from the biography) an unborn son. Then, continuing with the internet biography, Pres. Davies married Jane Holt and had five children, three sons (I'm assuming William, John, and Samuel) and two daughters, one of whom seems to have died unmarried. The second daughter, it seems, was Margaret, who married (Col.) William Poage. I am confused about how Martha Ester Davies Alexander fits into the picture. I'm wondering if Martha Ester Davies can be a daughter of President Davies? I'm wondering if Martha Ester can be a child of President Davies' first short-lived marriage (difficult to see how this is possible if the internet biography is correct about the unborn son)? Or am I on the wrong track in trying to connect Martha Ester Davies as a daughter of the Princeton President? I would appreciate any help in identifying Martha Ester Davies Alexander.
