Edward Davies of Guilsfield, Meivod and Llansanffraid
I am seeking any descendants of the Davies Family who came from any of the following places.
Collfryn or Trewylan in the Parish of Llansanffraid (~ym~Mechain)or Pen~y~Lan on the border between Guilsfield and Meivod. Maesgwyn or Tirnewydd (or even Tynewydd)also in Guilsfield.
Edward Davies took a tenancy or leasehold on Ty~Coch, Peny~y~Lan which at that time was on the Glyn Mytton estate in about 1795. Edward Marred Margaret the daughter of William and Jane Jones of Pantglas in the Parish of
Llanfihangel~yng~Ngwynfa, Montgomeryshire. Edward may have been previously married to Elizabeth Williams of Meivod and had a son John Davies who may have gone to the US. The children of Edward and Margaret were
1.Edward Davies II,
2.Thomas Davies (Died without issue),
3.Jane who married Edward Griffiths of Keel, Meivod.
4.William Davies later of Fitz Farm, near Montford Bridge in Shropshire
5.Margaret who married David Jones of Tirnewydd, Guilsfield and Later of Edgebold, Hanwood in Shropshire. Ancestors of many of the Jones Families in Guilsfield and surrounding areas.
Edward Davies II married Margaret daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Reynolds of Carno (Later of Ohio in the US). Edward II & Margaret left Guilsfield and Moved to
Gwern~y~buarth in the parish of Llandyssil, Mont in the 1840’s and then before 1845 they had moved to Timberth in the parish of Chirbury in Shropshire. Their Children were
1.Margaret 1833~1876 (married M.J. Griffiths of Houlston),
2.Edward 1834~1913 (remained a bachelor),
3.Thomas 1836~1913 (father of Anne Davies of Aston Piggot, Worthen in Shropshire),
4.John 1838~1910 (Bank Farm, Hanwood, Shropshire),
5.Mary 1841~1919 (Married Edward Reese James of Montgomery Town),
6.Richard 1842~1910 (father to Alfred Davies of Siberscott, Plealey, Shropshire.)
7.William 1845~1916 (See Below)
8.Elizabeth(Betsy)1846~1913 (Married William Jones of Bank Farm, Berriew, Mont.)
9.Ann 1848~1874 (Married Edward Evans of Wotherton)
William Davies 1845~1916 was my Great Grandfather he married Frances daughter of Thomas Hughes of the Cwm, Aberhafesp, Mont. She was a descendant of the
Reynolds’s of Tanyrallt, Llanwynog, Mont and thus a descendant of Athelstan Maurice of Pwllan, Llandinum. William and Frances Davies moved to Hall Farm, Minsterley, Shropshire in 1886.
If any of this sounds familiar please get in touch. I am struggling to find were Edward Davies (I) came from and who his parents were. It may be that Edward was the first to
adopt the name Davies.
