Gareth - Many thanks. I had found out about the Davies/Thomas problem. It does look, however, as if our shared ancestor married twice: my Mother's family Bible gives birth dates for four of David's children, and they are all well before 1822 - Thomas (14.4.1788), John (4.12.1790 - my gt-gt-grandfather and - I'd guess - the witness at the wedding), Elinor (19.9.1793), Davied (19.12.1796) and Mary (1800). John became Parish Clerk for Llandisiliogogo and, I discover, ended as a butcher.

Very interesting to hear from you. Let's put together what we know. Tony Rees
