Rev. Dr. Benjamin Davies of Newcastle Em

We have a Davies of unknown Christian name who hailed from Newcastle Emlyn. Probably a farmer, he moved to Gilfach Goch where he lived in Emlyn Villa and was deacon in the Baptist chapel there.
He had at least one son and daughter. The son William was known locally as 'Will Davies Transvaal' because he was very fond of recounting anecdotes of his experiences in the Boer war (1899 to 1902). Married to Alice he had three sons and also brought up his niece, Dodan, whose mother (Will's sister) died about the same time as her husband (unknown). Dodan had a brother, Dai, who died in a swimming accident.
The three sons were Phillip, David Emlyn (my grandfather) and William (Billy). Billy died in 1937 fighting with the International Brigade in Spain. Phillip served in India where he was kicked by mule which required his spleen to be removed. He returned to London where he married Nellie and lived with his family of five children near Paddington. Phillip was a Labour Party supporter and sold the Daily Worker in Trafalgar Square. David Emlyn married Suzanna Adams (beieved to hail from Ysbyty Ystwyth, of the Adams/Messer/Ishmael line) and lived in Ton y Pandy before moving to Mill Green in Cardiff. They had three children, Thomas, ELizabeth (Betty) and Glyn. Thomas is my father and lives nearby. Betty emigrated to Australia and Glyn was last heard of living in Bristol.
Would anyone like to fill in some gaps in this rather sketchy account? Please let me know if you can.
Nick Davies
