(you can search for her name, once you are on the above webpage), the parents of "your" William Davidson were John Davidson (born about 1720) and his wife Elizabeth (I have also seen "Mary"...and maybe even "Margaret") Morrison. I have not attempted to see if the e-mail address provided on the above link for Linda was still "good," but you might want to try it. If you are able to contact her, please let me know if she can "add to the story."
I should point-out that there seems to be some confusion among some researchers, since there was another/different (apparently) John Davidson who was SUPPOSEDLY born closer to 1709, and whose widow Mrs. Jane Davidson married second to a Mr. Morrison. This lady was named "Jane" (she POSSIBLY had the maiden name of "Tuck," but no one seems to have any proof of that), however, versus "Elizabeth," "Mary" or "Margaret." Some researchers have incorrectly shown the above Mrs. Jane Davidson as having been a Morrison BEFORE she married "her" John Davidson, but dedicated researchers of this John Davidson insist that she was a "Davidson widow," and THEN she married a Mr. Morrison.
Note: The above John Davidson who married Jane is frequently referred to as "Import"/"Importation" John Davidson (sometimes shown as "Davison"). "Import" John Davidson had a brother named George Davidson. George Davidson was the father of Rev. War hero General William Lee Davidson, after whom the county and college in NC were named (ditto Davidson County in TN).
I would not be too surprised if the above were truly two different John Davidsons with two different wives....but I can't say much on this with 100% confidence. That is one reason why DNA is so critical here....we have LOTS of donors from the overall family that included John and Jane (Tuck?) Davidson, and that family is "represented" by "Family 1" on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website here:

There was another man named Robert Davidson, and he married Isabella Ramsey. Some researchers have claimed that this Robert was a close relative of "Import" John Davidson (some even claim that he was another brother, I believe). I have seen something on the internet that shows the John Davidson who was the father of "your" William Davidson (who married Frances Childreth) as a brother....I think it was....of the Robert Davidson who married Isabella Ramsey. While all of this could be "bogus," (and maybe this is simply a result of the two different (apparently) John Davidsons being incorrectly "intermixed"), if someone out of "your" William Davidson were to take the DNA test, and IF that donor were to match "Family 1," then MAYBE that would be an indication that Robert Davidson truly was related to "Import" John Davidson and his brother George Davidson (note: "Import" John also had yet another apparent brother who was named Samuel Davidson). In any case, such a result would show that YOU are out of the overall Davidson family represented by "Family 1." Are you aware of ANY living male Davidsons from your family?
As I understand it, someone who believes that he "traces back" to the above Robert and Isabella (Ramsey) Davidson has recently shown some interest in the DNA test. If such a test comes to fruition, I will post that information here. Of course, whether or not that donor matches another donor (or "family"), I still see no PROOF that "your" William Davidson was DEFINITELY related to that Robert Davidson....so more research would still be needed.
