Was Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) the testing company, and if so, what is your uncle's kit number? If he did use FTDNA, then you can log-on to their website, using the kit number and password provided to your uncle. There you should see the "Y matches/close matches" that you mentioned (once you click on that section of the website). You can then run the "report calculation" which will show the "odds"/"percentages" of a "common male Davidson ancestor" between your uncle and each of his matches/close matches. At the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website (www.davidsongenes.org....we use Family Tree DNA as our testing company), we look for about a minimum of 80% "odds" at "12 generations back" and 90% "odds" at "16 generations back" before we consider any two people to be matched closely enough to consider them to be "related." Did your uncle add his markers to the "universal" DNA website called "Y Search" (this allows people who used different testing companies to compare their results)? In any case, if he did NOT use FTDNA as the testing company, are his actual markers available on ANY other website that I can view? Below is a link to a chart on a James Davidson/Mary Bean family that was in Orange Co., NC. This family had a Joseph Davidson in it, but I don't see one who was born as early as the 1750s. Do you see any connection between this family and yours (and/or to your uncle's "matching donor")? http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~genea/Dzjamesbean.html I don't THINK that anyone who claims to "trace back" to the above James Davidson/Mary Bean family in Orange Co., NC has joined the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA testing project....so I wonder if your uncle had his DNA tested through some OTHER DNA testing project (or maybe this is not your family). Some have suspected that the family in the above link was another "branch" of "Family 4" on the referenced DNA website (but no proof). The William Davidson who married Hannah Oaks (see him in the above link) was in Grainger Co., TN for a while, as were members of two other unrelated Davidson/Davison families (members of "Family 7" and my "Family 10" were also in Grianger Co., TN in the early 1800s). Some members of my own family ("Family 10" on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson website) were also in Orange Co., NC, but they were not there until about 1780 (William and Elizabeth Davidson, with sons named Josiah, William and David...plus several daughters). Comments/questions? I will try to help you more, if you can give me some additional information, as mentioned above. Notify Administrator about this message?
