Joseph, I found your post fasinating, it will obviously take me a while to digest it all..but I wanted to ask you a question. I have been trying to find the parents of my 4th great grandfather Thomas Davidson b. 1780-1790 in SC (as per census), he married a Nancy Ann who was b. 1786-1788 in NC. Story has it she was kidnapped when she was three years old, her family didn't find her until she was married with three children (that would put the finding year about 1815ish, they were living in Tennessee), some researchers believe her name is Nancy Ann Ingram/Ingraham. (I've heard questions on whether Nancy Ann was kidnapped by Indians, but don't have any proof one way or another.) Thomas and Nancy Ann were living in Jackson County Tennessee for all their children's births, they are as follows: Thomas Davidson b. 1810-1820 TN d. abt. 1856 TN William Davidson b. 1810 - 1811 TN d. abt. 1880 TN Samuel Davidson b. 1812-1813 TN (This is my line) John I. Davidson b. abt. 1815 TN d. 1843 Johnson Co., MO Susannah (Sarah) Davidson (Burris) b. 1816 d. in Jackson Co., TN Mariah Davidson (Bradshaw) b. 1823 TN d. abt. 1916 AL Elizabeth Davidson (Smith) b. abt 1825 TN Jonas G. Davidson b. abt 1826 TN Nancy Ann Davidson (Matthews) b. 1827 TN Stephen M. Davidson b. 1829 TN d. 1880-1900 CA Thomas and Nancy Ann moved about 1840 to Missouri living first in Lafayette Co., MO, then in Johnson Co., MO. (bordering counties), Thomas died two years after their son John I. Davidson, I do have their estate settlement paperwork (I have transcribed it). Unfortunately there is no reference to Thomas' parents or any siblings, so this is what I am looking for. As per Jackson County TN census for different years there is a Richard Davidson b. abt. 1797 TN living there with family, also my Thomas' son Thomas and I believe William Davidson married to Minerva Gibson. In Lafayette County Missouri there is along with known children of Thomas and Nancy Ann, a Nathaniel Davidson b. abt. 1794 TN, in Johnson County Missouri during this same time there is a William Davidson b. 1798 TN but lived a while in Lawrence Co. AL), he is married to Jane Bigham. (I'm going off the top of my head on these three's birth years, it's close but could be on the wrong man). I haven't found a connection yet. Now my 3rd great grandparents Samuel Davidson and Elizabeth Mansell had several children too: Bailey P. Davidson b. 1836 TN Greenberry C. Davidson b. 1838 TN Thomas Davidson b. 1840 MO Samuel Davidson b. 1841 MO Flournoy Davidson b. 1845 MO Nancy Ann Davidson b 1847 MO Stephen M. Davidson b. 1849 (again my line) John S. Davidson b. 1855 MO The name Greenberry seems to show up in different Davidson families. Do you know of any connections to this name? In the 1820 Jackson Co. Tennessee census these people show up. page 70 Davidson Richard 100100 - 1010 - /2 page 71 Davidson Thomas 400011 - 10110 - /4 page 71 Davidson W H 000010 - 10010 - /2 page 73 Green Abner 100010 - 1010 - /2 page 75 Henson Samuel page 75 Henson Samuel page 75 Henson Anne page 78 Jackson Elias page 78 Jackson William page 78 Jackson John page 78 Jackson Andrew page 78 Jackson ??? page 78 Jackson Asariah page 81 Mancel Robert page 81 Mancel Rice page 81 Mancel Burrel Could the three Davidson's be brothers? In Jackson Co TN marriage records show a Mary Ann Davidson marrying a John Green. In the same marriage records there is a record of a Richard Davidson marrying a Sarah Hansen (all other reseachers state Richardson Davidson m. Sarah Chambers) Now the Mancel families belong to my Samuel Davidson who married Elizabeth Mansell...Samuel being her father, Rice her grandfather and Burrell an uncle. Are you absolutely sure these are the only children of your Thomas Davidson of NC and SC? I haven't been able to locate a Thomas Davidson born between 1780-1790 who hasn't been placed in a family. My Thomas' children's names follow some of the names you have told of, there seems to be a long line of John's, William's, Samuel's, Thomas' in my line. I know they all went to war if old enough, and that too runs in families..haven't been able to find any military records of my elder Thomas being in the war of 1812 but wonder. I hope you read this and find something that will place my Davidson's in a Davidson line. Thank you for taking time to read my ramblings.
