Ms. Holmes: I shall respond privately to your message, but I do want to post this notice about it. The daughter Mary Davidson is undoubtedly the same as Molly Davidson, Molly being a standard nickname for Mary. Likewise, Betty Davidson would be the same as Elizabeth Davidson, Betty being a standard nickname for Elizabeth. Perhaps I did not make it clear in my posting that I was identifying Molly and Betty as Mary and Elizabeth, respectively, just as Jean and Jenny Davidson of the records was the same person as Jane Davidson (Jane Waldrop) of later census records. If, as you say, Mary (Molly) Davidson married Roland Andrews, then either she did not marry John Simpson, or she married Simpson first and Andrews second. I have no clear proof of her marriage, but when John Simpson signed as an heir of Thomas Davidson, it would imply that his wife Mary was Thomas Davidson's daughter and that that is how Simpson became an heir to the estate. That was all I had to go on relative to Mary/Molly marrying John Simpson. I do not have photocopies of the Newberry County records. All I have is what Miss Blanche Davidson abstracted for my grandmother in the early 1950s and Miss Davidson may have overlooked something. There were no copy machines in those days and the only way to copy records was to do it by hand, and then have a county official certify that they were true copies, and this is what Miss Davidson did. If you have photocopies of these records, and if they are different from Miss Davidson's abstracts, I would certainly accept the photocopies over the hand copies, even when the latter are certified. Thank you for your response. Joseph Moore Notify Administrator about this message?
