Davids from France in New York City from 1840s to 1900s
My great-great-grandfather was John David (probably born Jean) born in 1840 in France. He emmigrated to the U.S. sometime around 1850-1861 and died in Brooklyn, New York in 1915. His death certificate states that he was born in France (as do census data) and that his parents, John and Therese (no maiden name included), were also born in France. He was a ship's carpenter and married an Irish woman named Julia Cummings who was born in 1838 and died in 1898.
I have not been able to locate any of John David's relatives in New York (other than his wife and children) and was wondering if anyone had David ancestors from France living in New York City from the 1840s through the early 1900s.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
