Ellen:I have included the will below. The misspelling are the way it was written. In the 1830 Census of Mercer County, one male between 60-70 is listed. He married Elizabeth (Betsy) McAfee in 1796.The name "Jones" is listed as "Jonas" in other places. There were no commas between all the names but those were individual children. Is there a reason why you believe he is from the family you listed?Do you know if there is documentation that he came to Kentucky by them?
I William Davenport of the County of Mercer and State of Kentucky calling to mind the mortality of all living beings at this time weak in body but of sound mind and memory do hereby make and constitute this Instrument of writing as my last will and testament.1st I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it in the confident hope of that immortality promised to such as put their trust in the savior and my body to be decently buried by my Executors to be hereafter named.2ndIt is my farther will that all my just debts and funeral expenses be first paid out of any funds I may have on hand or the sale of such portions of my property as may be necessary.3rdAs to personal property I have already given to my son William D. Davenport all that I intend to give him.4thI also will to my daughter Martha one sorrel mare and her saddle and bridle which she claims.5thI also will to my son Samuel one horse and two beds and bedsteds and furniture to be allotted by my Executors after which, including the payments of my debts and funeral expenses it is my will that all the ballance of my personal estate of all kinds and money due shall be equally divided between my son Sam and daughter Martha and in case they cannot divide the same my Executors shall sell all such as cannot be divided and divide the money.6thI furthermore give to my first wife's children one dollar to each of them besides what I have heretofore given them and no more. That is Allen John Jones, Nancy, Eliza Margaret & America.7th It is my farther will that Delance O. Springate and John Vandike be the Executors or either of them of this my last will and testament in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my & seal this 15th day of September, 1846.
