STEPHEN DAVENPORT, TN
Stephen DAVENPORT was the son of William DABENPORT (Stephen changed the spelling at some point) from Ireland.William arrived in SC, married ?, and had two sons, two daughters. His two brothers, Buford and Isaac arrived at the same time, Buford going "north" and Isaac's whereabouts unknown. The sons of William were Stephen and Isaac.Stephen married in SC and had some children there before moving to TN. Children by the first unknown wife were Hiram (Hy), William, James, David, John, Mary, Isaac. The mother died at the birth of the next child.Stephen remarried Mildred Ann Abernathey and in 1850, was living in Hardeman County. He and Ann had three more children by then, of the total of 8 they would have.Hy and William were married in Hardeman County.Hy married Mary Jane Aberthay and William married Mary Hatfield.Hy had two children by then, Cornelius and James.William and Mary had a son, John, aged 6 mo.Family history says that the family scattered to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and at least one, Isaac, lived out his life in TN, Henderson Co where he and Mary had moved a few years before.Mary died on July 1, 1865 in Paducah KY after fleeing from Union City TN when her husband, Samuel McCollum and brother Isaac were captured and sent to Andersonville the year before.Samuel died enroute.Mary was never able to get home to Henderson Co. but the children were taken there to live after the war.Anyone with information on the DAVENPORTS, especially prior to 1850, I would love to hear.I have the names of the other 5 children of Stephen and informatin on several of the entire family as to occupation, and in some cases, where they moved.
