There has been a lot of research on this Davenport family. I bought a copy of this research. My son-in-law descends from Charles Kennedy m. Crosha (?). I have spent a lot of time analyzing the existing data.

1. Martin Davenport had neighbor Garret Conner.
2. When Charles Kennedy m. Crosha they lived on the land of Garret Connor. This land was not escheated back to the crown. A woman could not own land meaning Garret Conner must have had issue to hold title to the land.
3. Garret Kennedy distributed his land on his death to the eldest sons of Charles Kennedy sons as proven in Charles's Will. He calls them 'brothers.'
4. The only possibility I see is: Crosha Davenport m. Garret Conner and had a son Garret. Then Garret Conner died and Crosha married Charles Kennedy who raised Garret with his children. This would explain why the land was not eschested back to the crown, why Garret had to distribute the land he inherited and why the name Crosha Davenport runs rampant through the issue of Charles Kennedy & his wife Crosha.

This is not proof but I feel it is a compelling explanation.
