I am currently compiling a book on the descendants of Dorcas Andrews and Ebenezer Davenport, son of Mary (Unknown) and Thomas Davenport. Here is what I have on Ephraim:
EPHRAIM DAVENPORT, born 24 August 1767 in Dorchester, married Zeruiah Holden 1 November 1791.According to the FamilySearch.org International Genealogical Index, Zeruiah, born 12 or 20 May 1772 in Dorchester, was the daughter of Hannah Kilton and Samuel Holden. They had five sons (Joseph, Oliver, Asa, Jesse, and Ambrose) and three daughters (Harriet, Harriet, and Zeruiah/Zerviah).Jesse and all three daughters died in childhood.Ephraim was enumerated in Dorchester in all the federal censuses from 1800 to 1840.
Zeruiah died 14 September 1815 (Cemetery Record).Ephraim married secondly, on 21 October 1817, Susannah L. (nee Tolman) Holden, widow of Stephen Holden. She had five children from her first marriage. She and Ephraim had one son, Joel Bird Davenport, born 26 February 1819.
Ephraim died 19/24 Jul 1842 in Dorchester at age 75.Son Joel married Sarah A. Howe 14 October 1840 in Dorchester.Sarah and Joel were living next to Susannah when the 1850 Census was taken.
1850 MA Federal Census, Norfolk County, Dorchester:
Susannah L. Davenport, Age 74 born MA
Lydia Holden, Age 41 born MA (Susannah's daughter)
Eunice E. Holden, Age 17 born MA (probably Susannah's granddaughter)
Joel B. Davenport, Age 31 born MA, Carriage Painter
Sarah A., Age 30 born MA
Josephine, Age5 born MA
I believe Susannah died 24 August 1855 in Dorchester. The IGI assigns this date of death to a Susanna Capen Davenport, wife of Ebenezer, Ephraim's brother.I believe Susanna Capen was the wife of Ebenezer, Jr., the grandson of Rachel Searle and Elisha Davenport.
I ([email protected]) have done no further research on this family since it is not my direct line, but perhaps there is something here which might help you.
