Dear Kathy,I just had to reply to your Dever message. My G.G. Grandfather Patrick Dever & associated families lived in the Pennyslvania Philadelphia area's in the 1850's onwards. My G.Grandfather, Daniel Joseph Dever was born in 1868 in Philadelphia. Both his parents died when he was young and he was looked after by his Aunt who was a Mother Superior of a Catholic Convent in Philadelphia. They had a strong Dever family heritage in Philadelphia with many relations living close by. My G.Grandad went to school at the Manayunk Parish School and I believe they must have lived in or around that area or Shanandoah area. There are so many Dever's left in that area I'd love to find a direct relation. My G.Granfather immigrated to Australia in 1901 and married outside the Catholic faith, a Scottish Presbyterian girl captured his affections in Sydney, he was s Seaman and fell in love married and brought his family up here. All are close and we enjoy our families. He missed his family in America, often going back home until about 1906, he was cut off from his family because of marrying a non catholic and therefore lost contact with his heritage. What a shame! We have lots of stories and family history, photographs of him, in his youth and later years. I hope one day to be successfull in finding our American roots. Best wishes, Jenny!
