The David A Dougherty you cite is a brother to Mary. John L Dopugherty and Nancy Ward had 3 sons I knew of, was not aware of Mary Jane. John L left after the Civil War, went to Texas and died sometime after 1868. He registered to vote in Hunt Co., TX in 1868. He deeded his lands over to his sons. John L married three times - 1. Nancy Ward 6 Oct 1825 2. Hannah Peery 6 Jul 1843 3. Harriet ? Bef. 1860 Children of John L and Nancy Ward Dougherty were: George C b: 12 Jul 1829 m. Mary J Gillespie Issac W b: 30 Jul 1828 m. Daughtery, 23 Oct 1904 "Clinch Valley News' Tazewell, Tazewell Co., VA Friday, October 28, 1904 REV. D. A. DAUGHTERY Falls Mills, Oct. 12- On last Sunday Morning [ed. Oct. 9, 1904] the people of Taborsville was shocked and grieved , when the news came that REV. D. A. DAUGHTERY, of Falls Mills, was dead. He was well as usual when he retired Saturday night, and was found dead in his bed Sunday morning. He was buried in the Marrs grave yard. Monday [ed. Oct. 10, 1904] evening at 4 o'clock, after a funeral sermon by REV. TYLOR FRAZIER. We do not hesitate to say that there never was a better man lived or died at falls mills than BROTHER DAUGHTERY. There could be a great deal more said, but we suppose the Falls Mills correspondent will give the full history. I have quite a bit on this line, as near as we have been able to determine, John L was the son of John Dougherty and Hannah Letcher. John was a brother to my Irish born ancestor, James and other brother William and sister Nancy Ann Dougherty Leese. All but Nancy lives in Scott, Tazwell and Russell Counties in SW VA. You may contact me directly for more data. Am willing to share what we have, would like more on your Mary Jane as we were unaware of her! Notify Administrator about this message?
