Russ,

Merging two accounts for which I have username/password is your proposed solution.

That is not the problem. When I subscribed I did not have an option to create a different username and password for the subscription.

I only know one username and password.

It does not work for my subscription. The computer says my username and password do not go with the subscription confirmation number.
