Frustrations: Web site updates; accessing subscriptions, contacting tech support
Colleagues:
Just a brief message to describe some of the difficulties I am having to see if anyone else has had these problems/found solutions.
1) After I posted by genealogy with Family Tree Maker version 5 and created a website, I find that the web site will NOT accept updated information. Most of my updates at this point are corrections of information.I do not like having inaccurate information on this site.I called the help line and was told that the staff was behind on vetting updates and that it would take about a week to fix things. That was two weeks ago ... and still my initial posting is up there. What is the holdup? Can anyone report on this?Do I need to delete this website and upload a new one?
2) When I use the web search feature from within FTM V.5, it invokes an Internet search at Ancestry/Genealogy.com for the data I am looking for. When I try to follow the links for the FOUND data, I am then asked for a member login to the website. When I log in, I see that I have the World Deluxe subscription ... but then when I attempt to make further inquiries ... I am asked to subsribe to all sorts of other subscriptions.IT SEEMS THATWORLD DELUXE DOES NOT MEAN EVERYTHING these sites have to offer.WHAT IS AND WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE WORLD DELUXE SUBSCRIPTION? The other problem is that FTM V5 "loses track" of where I am in the searching AFTER I login to the site making it harder to save the data I do find to the program save manual "cut & paste" methods.
3) There is no easy way to find a customer service Email address.Everytime I look for one, I am cycled around in circles on the Genealogy.com/Ancestry.com websites to a series of help menus that do not have the answers to my questions.
4) I cannot find my Family tree as a family posting by simply searching for relatives names that I have posted. It seems the web site is not indexed (yet?) to all of the other holdings on the site. Why?Does it take a long time to do so?I ask about this because I suspect that others doing research will have limited information and they will need to find this web site by making generic searches.
Would appreciate any help with respect to these questions. Many thanks.
