In the 1920's my Grandfather Joao "Joe" da Silva and his brothers Arthur and Julius arrived in America from Foz do Arelho, which is very near Caldas da Rainha. Their father's name was Jose da Silva and their mother's name was Rosa Margarida.
There was a brother Julio da Silva that stayed in the area and we have pictures of him and his family. Two sons and two daughters. From what I can make out of the writing on the pictures, there's Maria Alice da Silva born in the late 1940's, Maria Luiza da Silva and a Luis da Silva, the other boy's name I'm not sure of.
Staying behind in Foz do Arelho was also his brother Francisco, who I think married Elisa Silvana in 1960. There is at least one sister, but her name is not known. There was a brother who moved to Brasil, but we don't know his name either.
The family operated a farm in Foz do Arelho and my grandfather kept in touch with his family there until his death in 1970 and we've been out of touch with them since then.
That's as detailed as I can be with what I've been able to translate from the papers we have.
