Marlene,

I think I have your James M. in my Darrow line.

In the 1860 census of Jasper Co., MO, I have James Darrow with his wife,
Mary J. James was born ca. 1833, TN (the family did live in IL for a brief period,
so someone may have told a census taker that's where he was born). In the 1850
census, this James is shown as a member of the household described below:

James was the eldest son of Jesse & Mary Darrow (she was Mary Melugin according to
Linda Reuter). They were both born in TN but got married in IL before moving to MO
about 1840.

I know that several of the Darrows moved on to OK and TX after the Civil War. My line
comes down through James' sister, Amanda, who married George Butler. They moved to
Montague Co., TX in the early 1870s.

According to Linda Reuter, James Darrow was a son of Benjamin Darrow of TN.

I think I have notes on the children of James and Mary J. from the 1860 and (maybe) 1870 census,
which I will dig up. Tell me the names of James & Mary J.'s children, and we'll see
if they look like a match.

Michele
