Hi Greg
I had sent this to your email address yesterday, but it bounced back, so I'll do it this way! Not sure if the attachment and photos will transmit, but can send them to your own email if you let me have a note of it.
It's a while since I've been in touch, but I've been doing some more research on the Darrochs, prompted by a visit to Jura a fortnight ago. I stayed on Islay for 3 nights, and then spent 24 hours on Jura, staying a night at the Jura Hotel, where I found a set of transcriptions (made in the 1980's by a former Jura minister) of census records, and old parish registers. I haven't had the chance to corroborate the info or expand on it, but it was a very useful source of extra facts. I'm attaching a list showing the descendants of Michael (yes, not Malcolm) Darroch, who was Mary Darroch's father.
I was also able to trace where on the island 'our' particular family of Darrochs lived - a hamlet called Brosdale at the south end of the island (Brosdale island lies off the south coast of Jura). It turned out that the old cottages at Brosdale were cleared in the 1840's, as they were overlooked by 'the big house', so the laird had a new group of cottages built to house them, and where they are must be one of the few locations on the island without a sea view! The new cottages were built in two facing rows, and I think there were three or four cottages in each row, but they were apparently derelict by the 1930's. However, a pair of them have been renovated as a holiday house, and here are some photos showing New Brosdale:-

Mary Darroch's sister Janet died of consumption at New Brosdale in May 1855, and her death certificate provides much useful information, including confirmation that her parents were both deceased by then. Her brother Alexander and his family also lived here. I haven't yet added Alexander's family to my database, but the 1851 census named 10 children; his death in 1880 was registered by his son Michael.
If I gather more info, I'll be happy to pass it on.
All the best from Scotland
Angus

Angus,
I've gone through the information you sent me andhad a question and comment:
1.Your records indicate that William Duncan's father John Duncan married Ann Allison (1812 - 1868).Do you have any additional information on her?I have a transcript of William's birth certificate and it indicated his mother was Jane Allison, but I have no other back-up material.
2.I noticed that Matthew Kinloch (son of Matthew Kinloch and Mary Darroch) married Margaret Kinloch which turns out to be his first cousin! She is the daughter of George Kinloch and Catherine Govan, which I thought was interesting.
Thanks for all the additional information!
Greg

Hi Greg
It's been a while since we were in touch, but I've now acquired the Roots Magic 5 software so should now be able to access and use my family tree data. I've routed this through your own email rather then the GenForum one so hope you get this.
I'm attaching reports from my family tree re the Kinlochs, which I hope will transmit ok, and hope you find something of interest here!
All the best
Angus
