They are found in Ulster (North Ireland) but remember the English settled large numbers of Scottish families in what was called Irish Plantations in Ulster. I haven't traced anything on back to Scotland. When these people came to America they were callled Scotch-Irish and were usually Protestant in religion. Followups: Re: Origin of family name?
