Darling's Lake, Yarmouth Co, Nova Scotia
There is a Darling's Lake (Lake Darling) just outside Yarmouth in southern Nova Scotia. I think it was named for an early settler around 1760, or perhaps for a Loyalist who showed up as the American Revolution was coming to its end in 1783/4.
Today, in Canada's phone book - http://www.canada411.comhttp://www.canada411.com - I see only 18 DARLING names in NS, none of them around Yarmouth at all. Most now live around SYDNEY, New Waterford, Scotchtown, Coxheath, and Blackett's Lake in the industrial area of Cape Breton in the far north of NS.
The rest are around the capital city area of HALIFAX in communities like East Chezzetcook, Enfield, Hubbards, and Hatchett Lake. One is in Bridgewater, Lunenburg County, one hour south of Halifax, and another is in River Hebert (=Hibbert), Cumberland County, about 2½ hours drive north-west of Halifax, just before you leave NS and enter New Brunswick.
Does anyone posting here know WHO the Darling was who gave (his) name to Darling's Lake, Yarmouth County, NS sometime between 1760 and 1800 ? Who was his wife, his children, and who were his family ? Why did he leave the area, and when ?
IS he perhaps connected to the Darling names on this forum who lived around Saint John, New Brunswick or Bangor, Maine ?
