I bumped into your messages while looking for information relative to Oliver Perry Dark. I may be missing the beginning of this series of messages, but wanted to post what I know and see if you could add any information that might be of help to me also.

Oliver Perry Dark was my gggrandfather and I show him born Oct. 23, 1816 and died Apr. 18, 1892. I believe he married Mary Ann Elizabeth Spratlin (date unk) and they had the following children:
Robert Henry Dark b Apr 12, 1846, d Feb 25, 1933.
Mary Elizabeth Dark
James D. Dark
William A. Dark
Oliver Chatfield Dark

Robert Henry Dark married Martha (Mattie) Smith and one of their children, Mary Anna Dark, b. Dec. 2, 1867, married my paternal grandfather, Thaddeus David Woodard, on Dec. 19, 1886 in Tallapoosa County, AL. She died in Texas on Jun. 12, 1905.

I also understand that Oliver Perry Dark Served in the Alabama Legislature 1859-60, and voted for secession in 1861. He even enlisted in the Confederate Army at the age of 48 as a private in R.G. Young's Cavalry Company. This information was furnished to me from a book calledf "The Kith and Kin of the Dark/Darke Clan in America, 1680-1973." I do not have a copy and understand it might be more readily available in Alabama.

My information is that Oliver Perry Dark's father was Thomas Dark, b. 1775, d. 1843 and that Thomas Dark's father was Samuel Dark, b. 1736.

I hope this information is helpful to you, and if you can fill in any gaps in what I have I would appreciate it very much.
