Very interested in this thread - in particular the Hampshire and Leicestershire DARE connections.
By way of background my gr. gr. grandmother was Mary DARE who married Jonathan Vicessimus BUTTON at the parish church, Paddington (London) in 1846. On the certificate of marriage it was indicated that Mary's father was Thomas DARE, a cordwainer, and that both DARE's and Jonathan BUTTON resided in Praed Street Paddington.
However, in the 1851 census it states that Mary DARE was born near Burbage, Leicestershire. In further checking the IGI there is a christening for Mary DARE, daughter of Thomas and Mary DARE, on 3 Nov. 1822 at St. Mary, Hickely, Leicester.
There is a further entry for the marriage of Thomas DARE and Mary LUDFORD at St. Mary, Hinckley, Leicester on 3 December 1821.
There are other DARE marriages at St. Mary, Hinckley about this time - John DARE to Elizabeth JACKSON, 25 September 1823 and Joesph DARE to Mary COLLINTON 28 December 1830.
However, I have a cousin and fellow BUTTON / DARE researcher who has identified a DARE connection to Bramshott, Hampshire prior to ca. 1820.
Would be glad to hear from anyone who can help fill in the blanks.
