Greetings Dare Cousins!
The 1939 Dare Genealogy was compiled by my 2gr-aunt, Nellie Grosscup (Leddon) Montgomery and her husband Harry.Nellie was the Dare descendant through her mother, Anna Dare (Hires) Grosscup, and the descendants of Capt. William Dare owe her a debt of gratitude for all her efforts in researching our family history. That being said, I must advise caution when using her book. There are a number of errors (as is true of many published genealogies) and everyone should be sure to verify any information taken from it.
Nellie's efforts paved the way for Edward Everett Grosscup (the son of her cousin) and Robert Dallas Dare to compile a much larger Dare genealogy. This work is available through the Gloucester County History Society in 3 volumes. Please visit their website atwww.rootsweb.com/~njglouce/gchs/for a list of all their publications and ordering information.
If you are considering ordering your own copy and would like to know first whether or not your ancestor is included, I own Vol. II "The children of Benoni and Hannah Abbott Dare" and would be happy to let you know if you should go ahead and purchase this volume.
I would be very interested in hearing from any of you whose Dare descent is through the Grosscup or Leddon lines.
Laurel
