John,

I believe that you had a post in March of 1999 about your
William Grover Cleveland Dantzler who had "sister" Etta,
"brother" Foster, etc.

Elijah Dantzler was born about 1843, the son of Jacob Dantzler and Eliza Dantzler, Jacob's cousin. Elijah married sometime before 1874 to Olivia Funchess, a daughter of Daniel Funchess and Elvey L. Zeigler. Elijah and Olivia were cousins as well.

Elvey Zeigler was the widow of Willis Shuler and Daniel was the widower of Eliza Mahalia Inabinet.

In the 1880 Orangeburg County, Providence twp census, Elija and Olivia are given as follows:

Dantzler,Elija J. M W 40 Farmer
Olivia C. wife F W 27 keeping house
Anna O. dau F W 6
Daniel F. other M W 3
Maryan other F W 1

I believe this Daniel F. is the Daniel Foster Dantzler who died 07 Oct 1960, born June of 1877. Note that Daniel F. and Maryan are given as "other" and that Anna O. is the only child given as daughter.

Etta Dantzler is not given in this census, yet I know that she was attached to this family and that she was born March 15, 1876 and that she died May 9, 1942 and that she married twice. Her first husband was John Edward D. "Jed" Traxler. Her second husband was Emory Rueben George.

There was one other Dantzler, Laura Virginia Dantzler was born about 1875 who also does not appear in the census with Elijah and Olivia Funchess Dantzler. I suspect that this Laura, Etta, Daniel Foster, Maryan Dantzler were by other parents. Where they were natural siblings is also a mystery to me.

I have been unsuccessful in tracing the daughter Anna O. Dantzler and for that matter the family of Elijah and Olivia Dantzler after the 1880 census.

I would appreciate any feed back about the above.
If you have found anything since your 1999 post, please share.

This Dantzler, Funchess line are related to me as was this George family out of St. Georges Parish, Colleton District, SC.

And yes, reading your note, Elijah and Olivia did live south of the Santee River near Elloree and Santee, SC area.

Robert
