The will of John Baptist Dant dated 6/14/1807 and probated in Washington County, Ky. in Feb.1808, lists Mary Dant Elliott, wife of Stephen Elliott as a surviving daughter. Granddaughters mentioned in the will are Elizabeth and Susannah Elliott. John Baptist Dant's wife was named Elizabeth. They also had 2 sons, James and Soseph Dant. John Baptist Dant was born in 1745 in St.Mary's County Maryland. In 1785, John Baptist Dant and other Maryland Catholoics migrated to Nelson County, Virginia ( later, Nelson County, Ky. when Ky. became a state in 1792 )In 1792, Nelson County was subdivide and Washington County was formed. The Dants lived in the area that became Washington County and which later, in 1834, became Marion County. John Baptist Dant was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. Many veterans accepted land grants in that area of present day Ky. John Baptist Dant was the son of John Dant ( 1710-1763), the grandson of James Dant ( 1670-1717 ) and the G-Grandson of John Dant who died in St.Mary's County Md. in 1702.
