My Grandmother was Willie Bell Cummings Locklear. She was the daughter of Mahalia Dansby Cummings and James Wilson Cummings. She had a twin brother who died at an early age. There were other siblings - some I met as a child a family reunions. One uncle I remember was Joe Cummings. One of his daughters, Blanche Cummings Blackman has done some research on the family.
My grandmother told me that her grandmother was Cherokee. As for evidence, I have none. Just "word of mouth" from my grandmother (deceased), mother(deceased),aunts (3 still living), and a few other relatives. As far as I know, there are no official records to confirm. There are a few other sources I maybe able to check.
Thank you for your response.
