I purchased the subject snapshot of two men dressed in Army uniforms, identified on the back: "My good friend Sgt. Zack Daniels and myself. Taken Sun., 21 Oct. 1945 in Tacloban, Capital of Leyte Is. All my love to you, sweetheart. Your guy, Nelson" The name "Lee" is written across the shirt of one of the men and in the print border the words "So. Pacific." Leyte Island is in the Philippines. The only person I see in the military records on ancestry.com that matches the subject's approximate age is a Zack Daniels who enlisted 28 Mar 1941 at Fort Barrancas, FL. He was single and employed as a sheet metal worker in civilian life. I found him listed in the 1930 Census data for Carpenter, Jackson Co., FL, in the Social Security Death Index, and in the Florida Death Index. Zack Daniels was born 17 Nov 1914 in FL, and died 10 Oct 1988 in Jackson Co., FL. He was the son of a farmer, Lut Daniels, born about 1887 in FL, and Catherine (maiden name unknown), born about 1886 in FL. Siblings (all born in FL) are Amos B., born about 1911; Christiana, born about 1913; James, born about 1918; and Everett, born about 1920. I am not able to place the other man, Nelson Lee, if indeed that is his full name. Contact me if you are interested in viewing and/or acquiring this photo. Notify Administrator about this message?
