According to Josephus DANIELS, Jr., his father, Josephus DANIELS, Sr. was born January 21, 1828 on Bay River, then in Craven, now Pamlico County North Carolina. The son of Clifford DANIELS and his spouse, Susan CARRAWAY. Besides Josephus, Senior, they had Jesse, John, Hiram, Richard, and Phillip. Clifford DANIELS married secondly to Millie JONES and had Sallie J. (married Wiley BARNES), Mary, Henry, Rebecca, Tabitha and William DANIELS.

Clifford DANIELS was a son of Thomas DANIELS, who, with his sons, Clifford, John-Cutrell, James and Thomas (Jr.) came, at the close of the Revolutionary War, from the north of Ireland, to Roanoke Island, North Carolina. They were English Protestants of Ulster. Clifford later settled on Bay River, where he engaged in farming and in building the vessels known as schooners which engaged in coastwise trade and plied between the eastern coast of the U.S. and the West Indies.

Children of Josephus "Jody" DANIELS, Senior and Mary Cleaves SEABROOK:

1. Unknown Son DANIELS, died in infancy.
2. Florence DANIELS, died in infancy.
3. Franklin Arthur DANIELS
4. Josephus "Joe" DANIELS
5. Charles Cleaves DANIELS
