Shelby was a given name in my Daniel family from about 1808. Two sons of Thomas Daniel ca 1750 - ca 1821, John 1773 - 1849, and Estridge 1782 - 1852 each named a son Shelby, probably after Isaac or Evan Shelby. This name was used numerous times among the descendents of these two brothers. There was a Joseph Shelby Daniel in my family living as late as the mid 1980s, but yours is not familiar to me.
